[Indoor Track and Field] Pair of Falcons hit NAIA National Standards at KSU's Carol Robinson ...

Comments

The Friends University Track and Field team took 4 athletes to the Carol Robinson Pentathlon at Kansas State University on Friday and came home with a slew of accolades. Both female competitors for the Falcons hit the NAIA National Standard of 2700 points in the event.  Junior Madison Behny (Andale, Kan.) finished with 2763 while breaking her own school record in the 60 Hurdles (9.41) and sophomore Kaitlyn Keck (Haysville, Kan.) scored 3050 points which resulted in her smashing her old school record of 2761.

The pentathlon is an NAIA National Qualifying event for the women and is a combination of 5 events in one day – 60 Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, Long Jump, and the 800M.

The Falcon men also competed in a Pentathlon and were led by Junior Dylan Biedron (Wichita, Kan.) with a score of 2942. Freshman Zach Griffiths (Desoto, Kan.) also competed for the Falcons scoring a personal best 2855. Biedron's performance was the first Pentathlon recorded by a male Friends University athlete so his score of 2942 will go up as the current school record.

Head Women's Track and Field and Multi-Event Coach Cole Davis had these remarks on the meet. "Overall I could not be happier with the results of today. Kaitlyn Keck improved on her score from this same pentathlon last year by 300+ points. She is one of the hardest working individuals on this team and that definitely showed today. Maddie, Dylan, and Zach did a tremendous job today as well as this was their first collegiate multi. Maddie had multiple personal records, including breaking her own school record in the 60 hurdles. Dylan really rose to the occasion hitting some big jumps in both the Long and High. They take the top 16 point scorers to the National Meet in March and with Kaitlyn's score of 3050, I believe she will be one of the elite competitors making the trip to the 2014 NAIA Indoor Nationals. Being a Multi-Event athlete is all about family and I am extremely proud of the way that our athletes supported each other today."

The Falcons will be in action next when select athletes compete at the Bill Butterworth Challenge at Wichita State University on January 4th. The full team will be in action next on January 17th at Johnson County Community College.
